Launching a Wedding Business Whilst Still Employed

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of interviewing Australian Academy of Wedding & Event Planning Advisory Board member, Joanie Lim of One Wedding Wish.  This interview has been recorded as a Podcast and you can listen to it in full here.  One Wedding Wish also has a beautiful new website so make sure you check it out via the link above.
In this chat Joanie told me of her own experience of launching her business, whilst still being employed and she highlights this as one fo the things that helped her to be successful.  It is something I have seen work for others too.  When starting out a new business, no matter how well prepared you are, the first year, even first several years, will see you on a huge learning curve.  You will also be faced with the pressure of having to manage your cash flow and earn an income.  If you remove the need for your new business to support you during that first year or so, by working full or part-time in paid employment, you ease that pressure, so you can focus on growing and managing your business.  What really stood out to me from my chat with Joanie, was that her own experience of doing this, enabled her to build a really strong foundation for her business, so that when she was ready to move into it fulltime, she was ready for it.
If you have been thinking about launching a wedding or event business, but you have concerns over whether it can support you in the first year, I think you will enjoy this Podcast.  We would love to hear your thoughts too, so please leave your comments below.
