A couple of days ago I had the great pleasure of interviewing Jes Gordon, an awarding winning event producer and designer, live on YouTube to talk about trends, design and inspiration as we lead up to the launch of the 2017 International Wedding Trend Report.
Some of the things Jes talked about really resonated with me. Just as we talk about in our courses at the Academy of Wedding and Event Planning Jes stressed how important it is to incorporate the five senses within the design of your event. How a successful event is something that touches upon the five senses and should evoke an emotional response as well as a visual response.
She told us about an interesting exercise that her team go through for their events. They close their eyes and visualise the events they produce from start to finish. They try to understand what the guest wants from the minute they walk in to when they leave. They literally close their eyes and dream their events.
We chatted about inspiration and where you can go for inspiration. Jes suggested visiting the flower market, going to gift shows and furniture shows to see what’s current. It allows you to see trends from different industries, which can then be taken back and given a unique twist. For Jes, New York City is one of her biggest forms of inspiration. She loves to get her inspiration from the streets, through fashion, art, music, food and wine.
When talking about trends the biggest movement seems to be away from florals and using interior design rather than just floral design to create an entire environment instead of focusing on one area.
I had a great time chatting to Jes and to watch the whole interview click the TV screen below. Jes is also one of the expert contributors to the trend report and you can read her full predictions when its released on January 4th, 2017. Don’t forget to subscribe to get your free copy.
