Pantone Colour Report 2017Can you believe how fast this year has gone? We are already at that time of year when Pantone releases their top 10 colours for the forthcoming Spring/Summer season. I always love this report because it is the first in a long line up of things that lead up to my Xmas countdown. It probably feels quite hard to think about Spring right now as we are fast heading into Winter. Of course our Australian and New Zealand campuses are at the opposite end of the spectrum and are themselves already in Spring heading into Summer.
The collection this year is quite a vibrant one but has been cleverly mixed with some more relaxing palettes that give designers and stylists a great range of colours to choose from. To really see how these colours could be used within the design of a wedding or event we find that an inspiration board is the best tool. As part of our course materials at the Academy we always feature each of the 10 colours and go into detail about how these can be incorporated into a design. Last year we thought it would be fun to get the boards themselves designed by our students to give them a chance to hone their design skills and show off their talent. It was a roaring success and we had some amazing entries. The final result was judged by our friend and Advisory Board member, Sara Burnett of Burnett’s Boards.
Due to popular demand we have decided to run the competition again with the 2017 colours. So its time to show us your creativity and see if you can get your board featured not only in the course material, but also on the Academy blog and acorss our social media channels.
Here’s the deal. Pick the colour you’d like to feature, more if you’re game as there is no limit to the amount of boards you can create, and design a board around that colour using the instructions below. Your choice of colours can be found here in the official Pantone announcement.
There are a few simple rules to follow:

  • Only one Pantone colour per board
  • You must include a swatch of the Pantone Colour as one of the images in the board
  • For uniformity we do request that you use Fotor, an online collage creator. Students we have an Academy account with Fotor that you can use to design your board without any restrictions. Please email [email protected] for the details.
  • All images must be credited – Format to be used: Image Credit: PHOTOGRAPHER/ BUSINESS NAME found via WEBSITE. (For more on the subject read this blog post from Rock N Roll Bride’s Green Room) If in doubt do a Google Image Search and paste in the URL. This will bring up everywhere the image has been used online. We also created a video last year on Finding Images for your Business, which you may also find helpful as it goes into the copyright implications.

We will be announcing the Guest Judge over the next few days so stay tuned to find out who will be viewing your work.
Instructions:

  • Go to http://www.fotor.com/
  • Choose the Collage option. In the left hand column there are options to choose how many images you want to use.
  • Please choose the 8+ option and choose one similar to that used in the mood board example below.
  • Once your images have all been uploaded you will need to choose the Text option from the left hand column to add the word Pantone and the name of the colour.
  • Below are the font details required:
    • Font – Rocksalt
    • Font Size – 35
    • Letter Spacing – 2
    • Collage Size – 1050 X 768
  • Save your Design and Export as a jpg to your computer and share with us on Facebook either through one of the Academy Facebook, Australia, UK, Arabia, New Zealand, North America, pages or through the Academy LIVE Facebook Group. (Academy LIVE is for students only as it is a private Group)

On October 14th we will announce the three finalists for each colour with the final winners being announed on October 19th. So what are you waiting for? Get designing and submit your boards. Remember, if you want to submit more than one board for the same colour you can do that too. There are no restrictions on how many boards you enter or how many boards you create featuring the same colour. Good luck and your time starts now!
