The announcment of the Colour of the Year from the colour authority Pantone is always a highly anticipated and talked about release in the wedding industry. Some would even put it up there with the Royal Wedding itself with the amount of speculation we see and hear. Well for 2017 the wait is now over.
Yesterday, Pantone announced that the colour of the year for 2017 will be Greeney and we couldn’t be happier here at Academy HQ. Many of us had our bets hedged on Kale, but for me any type of green is a refreshing change, especially one that is as beautiful as this one.
Rejuvenation, restoration and renewed energy are the words used to describe this gorgeous colour, symbolising new beginnings. Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman tells us: “Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose. ” To find out more take a look at the short Pantone video introducing the colour and it’s meaning.
Pantone predict that it will be used in a big way in home décor and architecture through pot plants, herbs and spices, botanic-themed wallpaper and paint – bringing the outside, inside, is the theme for 2017. This is exactly what we are seeing happening in the world of wedding and event design too.
We recently went into the studio to live stream the pre-launch of the wedding trend report for 2017, which you can see here, and greenery was everywhere in our styling on set – of course we aren’t ones to be smug or say I told you so.
Earlier this year when Pantone announced their colours for Spring/Summer 2017 Greenery was featured within it and we challenged our students across our 5 campuses to design inspiration boards based around one or more of the colours announced, you can see the designs here. Below are the three finalists for Greenery.
So what do you think of this colour? Do you prefer to the combined colour of the year we had for 2016 of Serenity and Rose Quartz? As always we love to hear your comments and feedback.
