If like us, you are passionate about weddings then we’re guessing you enjoyed every moment of last week’s Royal Wedding. But what goes into pulling off an event that epic? Well, planning amazing weddings is something we know about here at the Academy and today we share our top 5 tips for planning a luxury wedding fit for the Royals:
1 – Create a seamless experience
Basically, plan the hell out of it! Like a royal wedding, any great luxury wedding is planned to perfection and elaborately choreographed. You will need to create a detailed schedule for the entire event and anticipate any potential problems ahead of the day so you know you can deal with any eventuality. Behind every flawless wedding, there is a highly skilled team of professionals pulling out all the stops.
2 – Add drama and romance
There is a particular fairytale element we have come to expect from a royal wedding. Luxury weddings have to exceed all of the usual wedding expectations and really dazzle, whether they are public like Meghan and Harry’s, or a private celeb wedding. Create that wow factor with lashings of drama and romance with elements such as extravagant florals, exaggerated details (that veil!), old school glamour (hello Meghan and Harry’s evening look) and amazing transport choices.
“Florals are sure to play a big role in the wedding, with no shortage of grandeur and awe-inspiring creations. Popular trends like hanging gardens that sit above the reception, and walls covered in flowers would be stunning against the stone and woodwork that surrounds Windsor Castle.”
Kylie Carlson, Academy CEO
3 – Create a personal wedding brand
A ‘royal’ couple requires a bespoke wedding brand which could feature anywhere from the expertly crafted invites to a personalised wedding menu. Consider small details such as the couple’s monogram embroidered on the napkins or etched onto glassware. If the couple has a favourite quote or saying then a bespoke neon or crafted signage could add a special personal touch.
4 – Host multiple events
As well as the ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Meghan and Harry had not one but two wedding receptions; a lunch reception hosted at Windsor Castle and an evening party at Frogmore House. Hosting multiple events at a variety of locations over a number of days is typical of a luxury wedding so be prepared to handle all the logistics involved with this.
5 – Get good at keeping secrets
To build public excitement Kensington Palace revealed little details in the lead up to the royal wedding but they also kept key elements such as Meghan’s wedding dress completely secret. As with a lot of luxury weddings ‘big reveals’ can add to the magic of the day so it is essential that the wedding planner and her team know how to keep secrets. Where high profile or celebrity guests are involved privacy is also of the utmost importance; from ensuring the guest list is kept under wraps, to arranging tight security and managing the use of mobile phones during the event.
