The 5 Royal Wedding Trends Couples Will Be Adopting

I am sure like us you were glued to your TV screen’s last Saturday for the highly anticipated wedding of Meghan Markle to Prince Harry. And what a wedding it was! It’s safe to say we were not disappointed with what turned out to be the most modern royal wedding we’ve seen yet. It was amazing to see the wedding industries reaction on social media, with wedding planners and stylists across the globe sharing their favourite elements and moments from the public ceremony. What wouldn’t I have done to get an invite to the TWO reception parties!
Without a doubt, one of my biggest takeaways from the whole thing was how successfully they had managed to personalise a day so steeped in royal traditions and let their love take centre stage. Creating a bespoke day that is truly personalised to the couple marrying is virtually every wedding client’s brief today. Personalisation aside, there were some stunning details that we predict couples will be requesting from their wedding planners over the rest of this year and into next.

Here are our top Royal Wedding trends:

1 – All Children Bridal Parties
How cute were Meghan and Harry’s flower girls and page boys? There was a time when everyone included little ones in their bridal party, I was a flower girl three times before the age of nine. But more recently couples have favoured an adult contingent for their ceremony. Expect a revival of younger bridal parties with couples favouring their nieces, nephews and friends children.  I just have to add…round of applause to the two young gentlemen carrying Meghan’s veil, they did an amazing job!
2 – Fruity Wedding Cake Flavours
I was literally salivating over Claire Ptak’s wedding cake masterpiece when it was shared on the Royal Instagram. Having sampled her cupcakes in the past I can verify her baking and use of flavours is excellent! If you were watching on Stories you’ll know that the juice from over 200 Amalfi lemons and elderflower syrup made at the Queen’s estate in Sandringham went into this delicious looking creation.  We predict fresh fruity flavours will be on the menu, with more couples following Meghan and Harry’s lead and ditching the traditional fruitcake.

3 – Meaningful Flower Choices
I just loved Meghan’s simple and elegant bouquet and finding out more about the symbolism behind the flower choices. In tribute to Harry’s mother, the bouquet featured Princess Diana’s favourite flower Forget-Me-Nots alongside sprigs of Myrtle (signifying hope and love), a royal tradition dating back to the Victorian era.  To top it all off Prince Harry also handpicked some of the flowers from their private garden at Kensington Palace, which florist Philippa Craddock included in the bouquet (cue heart melt). We bet florists will be receiving more and more specific flower requests and greater involvement in the flower choices in the coming year.
4 – A Focus on the Music
Is it just me or was the royal wedding music out of this world? According to Kensington Palace: “Both Prince Harry and Ms Markle have taken a great deal of interest and care in choosing the music for their service.” And didn’t they do well? The highlights for me were the epic rendition of Stand By Me by gospel signers The Kingdom Choir, and the beautiful classical pieces by Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Both so moving they had me reaching for the tissues! We predict an increase in couples requesting cello soloists and gospel music.

5 – Modern Elegant Bridal Style
As with any royal wedding, there was a huge focus on the dress, with bookies taking bets on which fashion designer would create the dress.  Claire Waight Keller of Givenchy did not disappoint with her stunning creation, the perfect dress for a modern ‘princess’. We expect to see brides opting for more minimal, elegant silhouettes and designers incorporating boat neck and 3/4 sleeved styles into their next collections.  We’ll also see an increase in brides opting for second dresses for a more sexy evening look.
If you have post Royal Wedding blues and you’re still reliving all the best moments pop back here tomorrow when we will be sharing our top tips for planning a wedding fit for the Royals.
