From Colin Cowie, Colin Cowie Lifestyle…
What we can expect to see is the return to deep colors like emerald and aubergine, as well as rising popularity for florals including dahlias and ranunculus. We can expect the continued rise of Eco-friendly weddings, with couples also opting to include vegan menu options for their reception.
From Mindi Weiss, Mindy Weiss Party Consultants…
Table top design is going back to classic romance. Couples are opting for low centerpieces instead of tall and that lends itself to a more natural, romantic look. The style is more of an unkept garden than a tight and formal wedding for 2019.
From Kylie Carlson, CEO of the Academy of Wedding and Event Planning
With two Royal Weddings in 2018 both choosing to include eco-friendly options from ‘no plastic’ to ‘foam free florals’ the sustainability trend is definitely a popular one. For an environmentally conscious design use plenty of upcycled elements and mismatched antiques such as recycled paper stationery, repurposed glassware and candlesticks, and of course seasonal florals and foliage.
On design and style…
Over the past few years, trends have been moving towards simplicity – and in 2019, I think we’re really going to see this come through stronger than ever. What this means is that minimalism is back, and it’s going to be a massive trend in 2019. Louise Beukes, Editor in Chief, B.LOVED
On luxury weddings…
Location, location, location! Selecting a venue is becoming one of the most important decisions couples are making. It’s all about experiences and unique ones for that matter. Zainab Alsalih, Founder & Managing Director, Carousel Events
On LGBTQ weddings…
There are currently two trends guiding choices of today’s LGBTQ couples: one follows the pattern of an increasing assimilation into the mainstream market and its trends; the other follows an increasing embrace of broader, less restrictive definitions of gender expression. Kathryn Hamm, Education Expert / Diversity & Inclusion Specialist, WeddingWire
On colour in weddings…
We are seeing deeper wedding color themes instead of the traditional rustic, pastel theme. The deeper tones are a bit brighter too. An example would be Emerald and Merlot tones with accents of champagne. Brit Bertino, Brit Bertino Events
On stationery trends…
Taking your invitations to a whole other level of 3 dimensionality. Playing with paper and creating 3D form flowers, handmade, petal by petal – and really bring your invitation to life in a gorgeous, tactile way. Ceci Johnson, Founder and Creative Director, Ceci New York
On wedding linen…
Fabric choice is more abundant than ever before from silks and velvets to linens and lace. Layering of textures is a strong theme too for more minimalist colour palettes, deriving interest from pattern and texture rather than through colour. Kate Cullen, Owner, Kate Cullen
On table design…
You can’t talk about table design without talking about the chairs! We’re seeing couples start to understand more the importance of a good chair for their dinner and suppliers offer more stylish, bold and unusual options for hire. Holly Poulter, Creative Director, Revelry Events
On wedding lighting…
We will see an increased use of fairy lights, festoon lighting, custom made chandeliers that create an instant wow factor. Large chandeliers made from crystal, metallic and iridescent materials will still maintain a solid presence through 2019. Michelle Anderson, Director, Complete the Look
On wedding bouquets…
The versatile Wired Bouquet is back, this elegant design has been creeping in over the last few years and I think that it will become the favored bridal bouquet style of 2019. Lisa Gatenby of French Flower Style

On floral design…
Everyone loves a floral arch, but they can get a little repetitive. Couples have been getting creative with circle and half-moon shapes, covering them with greens, grasses, and florals. Joan Wyndrum of Blooms By The Box
On wedding venues…
Couples’ desires to make their wedding one of a kind and all about them; so extraordinary choices of venues or opting for a blank canvas such as a marquee, tepee or stretch tent so they can transport their wedding to their dream location and really put a personal twist on it. Julia Braime and Rachel Parry, UNVEILED Magazine
On food & beverage…
Couples want convenient, sophisticated food experiences, which is something that remains evergreen throughout the evolution of trends. They’d like fresh, natural ingredients, as well as unique and exciting elements along with being ethically produced and environmentally conscious. Meryl Snow of Feastivities Events
Look for more whiskey! Smoked whiskey cocktails and whiskey drinks with brulee fruits are creeping into the bar scene. Terrica Skaggs, Chief Event Planner and Designer, Cocktails & Details®
On cakes and sweets…
Rustic cakes are still on trend but there is a layer of sophistication such as painted effects on buttercream or sublime hand-made sugar succulents. Geometric shaped cakes are also on the increase with natural minerals providing inspiration. Elizabeth Solaru, Founder, Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium
Vegan desserts are already on trend but we will be seeing an increase demand in vegan desserts; using natural/organic ingredients, fresh fruits and flowers. Rosalind Miller of Rosalind Miller Cakes
On wedding photography…
We will be seeing more photographers playing with light and negative space and shadows and mirrors. There are very innovative things coming out of a lot of photographers these days, including shooting through prisms, bringing twinkle lights to their gigs, heavy use of off camera flash, etc. Phillip Van Nostrand, Owner, Phillipvn Photography
On wedding entertainment…
Next year will see a rise in classical choices as couples look to recreate that royal wedding atmosphere with acts such as choirs and cellists for their ceremony. Joey Burdon, Entertainment Expert & Social Media, Warble Entertainment Agency
On bridal fashion…
Now while many brides will be opting for the traditional dress and gown option, we will start seeing certain brides opt for a new trend. The pant suit / jumpsuit. When done correctly, a properly tailored pant suit in ivory or white can look absolutely stunning down the aisle. Dalia MacPhee, Owner, Dalia MacPhee
On bridal beauty…
Beauty trends include sun-kissed blush tones on skin and hair. Also, hair accessories are making a strong comeback with headbands, clips and all kinds of embellished barrettes. French-style bold red lips with clean, dewy skin. Bangs and big, long lush lashes are here to stay for 2019. Jessica Heckman, Owner, The Beautiful Co.
On wedding tech…
Things like wedding day hashtags are now common place and don’t feel as innovative and special. I think we’re going to see couples working to use technology to make it easier to be a guest at their wedding, and for people who couldn’t make it to still participate in the wedding (for example, creative use of IG TV).
