Setting Your Career Goals in 2021

Have you set your career goals for this year yet?

This January isn’t exactly the typical fresh start that we all desperately needed following 2020. It’s the ultimate “new you” month, filled with fresh plans and excitement. However, it’s a little different this time around.

Luckily for me, I have housemates to live with making my lockdown a little more bearable. But this is a testing time for everyone and is pushing us all to our limits in one way or another.

Finding ways to stay motivated in a time like this is a challenge. There are little ways to make even the worst situations manageable.

As hard as it’s been to do the typical beginning of year goal setting, it’s the best thing for me.

Career Goal No 1

My most prominent upcoming goal would have to be finishing my (virtual) degree in April. And finally becoming a qualified Journalist.

It’s been my whole life for the last 3 years and has definitely come with some character tests. Although it’s been such an influential experience for me, I’m not sorry it’s coming to an end.

Being online for half of my university time really did put a downer on things and I think I am more than ready to take my first official step into the adult world.

Career Goal No 2

My second goal is to be able to put more solid time into my work with the Academy. I’ve not been able to fully concentrate on a single aspect of my life for about 5 years so it’s a very exciting time for me.

I’d love to be able to have some hands on experience in the Wedding Industry (Covid permitting). I get more excited by it every single day. But I would love to be able to see how the magic happens, in person. I want to put myself to the ultimate career test this year and hope that I can come through.

Career Goal No 3

Another scary yet momentous event coming up for me is finally living on my own! It seems that at 22 years old, I still don’t feel grown up enough to be hunting for a place of my own.

I lived with my mum until I was 19, and for the last 4 years I’ve been in a mix of house shares and university houses. I know lots of people that try and hang on to Uni living for as long as possible, but I’m actually really excited to move on and maybe grow up a little bit! (Not too much though.)

2020 was an absolute whirlwind for everyone. It feels like it’s been one lockdown after another. But hopefully 2021 will bring us some positivity and that there’s some sort of light at the end of the tunnel for all of us!
