It was another lively chat on #WedBizHour last night with some great advice being thrown around and you can see the full transcript of the chat on our UK Campus Website here.
Publicity is something that confuses people and many believe that publicity is simply an advert made into a story – not true. To get publicity you need to have a story worth telling that is going to really draw readers in and give them a reason to keep reading.
You need to do your homework on the publications and journalists you are targeting. Your chances of getting published increases dramatically when you know what journalists want, so tailor your pitch accordingly.
Make the job of the journalist easy. Offer a unique perspective and insider advice. Journalists are looking for valuable expert opinions that give credibility. Take a moment to make sure your response is polished. Journalists aren’t interested in copy that requires lots of editing, so show your professionalism by sending a response that is well-written & error free, and always make sure you include your credentials and contact information.
As our friend Heidi Thompson from Evolve Your Wedding Business said, “PR isn’t about you, it’s about the reader. The reader doesn’t care about your new product. Editors do seem to like tips, and top 5’s but think of a topic that will grab their reader/your target audience.”
A great tool we find invaluable for connecting with journalists is HARO, Help A Report Out. HARO lets you know exactly what a reporter, blogger or journalist is looking for & quickly. It connects journalists with relevant expert sources to meet journalists’ demanding deadlines and enable brands to tell their stories. To find out more about them you can read their About Us Page here.
Next week on #WedBizHour we will be talking about how you gain more confidence in business so make sure you join us on Tuesday 9th of Feb between 8-9pm GMT.
