It’s won more golden globes than any other film ever and audiences are swooning over it. La La Land takes the classic old Hollywood formula of emotive dance, original songwriting and technicolor cinematography and transposes it to modern LA. Mia and Sebastian are aspiring Hollywood stars, whose beautiful love affair enables their ultimate dreams in the city of stars. I don’t want to ruin the story so I won’t reveal more, all I’ll say is it truly is a sensory delight!
So how might the movie inspire a wedding or event theme? Well firstly the colours are stunning, bold primary colours and tints of these make up the colour palette. In nearly every scene the female lead is dressed in solid bright colour; yellow, coral, blue, purple. This could be a lovely idea for the bridesmaids, imagine that California sunset as an ombre of dresses! Music and dance are essential elements to the film, and the lead couple embody the romance and glamour of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers style of dancing. Sebastian is a passionate Jazz pianist and for much of the film he is composing romantic duets or jamming with his band. A live Jazz band with dance performers would really get this party started!
When it comes to decor and props the skies the limit! Those gorgeous spherical lamp posts and neon jazz club style signs would make great lighting features for a space. A vintage car just like the Buick Rivera he drives in the movie or a retro cinema backdrop would make for unique photo booth style set ups. Retro style record players and old movie reels could make great centrepiece props, and those bold colours could translate beautifully into statement floral arrangements. As the evening winds down red velvet cinema seats or plush old Hollywood bar styling could make for a great lounge area for the guests.
At the Academy we teach you how to take inspiration from sources such as movies, and turn it into an exciting event concept. For more on the courses we offer visit the website for your nearest online campus:
