Each January we release our annual International Wedding Trend Report; a comprehensive wedding trend bible with contributions from wedding experts around the world, collated, designed and published by the Academy.
In conjunction with this years report, we thought it would be fun to set you all a trendsetting design challenge. So this November we ran our very first #WeddingTrendsetterChallenge over on the Wedding Academy Live Instagram.
Nearly 150 of you submitted your take on two of our top 2019 wedding trend predictions – Shimmer and Shine, and Eco-Conscious. We were overwhelmed with the beautiful design boards you created and it was a tough job for Academy CEO to whittle it down to just 10 finalists.
When it came to selecting the overall competition winner it only seemed right that we ask a top wedding trendsetter and industry leader to be our star judge. We were over the moon when the one and only David Tutera accepted our invite.
David is a huge creative force in the wedding and event industry, his imagination and innovation pushing the envelope of event design, creating and inspiring new trends. Not only does he plan phenomenal events and celebrity weddings, but David is also the host of TV show My Fair Wedding, he designs a host of gorgeous products including Bridalwear and accessories and he is a renowned professional speaker.
It’s a big deal to get your work in front of David and a huge achievement for all our finalists, but who did he select as his overall winner? Here’s the announcement you’ve been waiting for…
David loves the Shimmer and Shine trend and the design by @katarina_white_event_styling was his absolute favourite. He had this to say about the winning board:
“This board is a modern take on the traditional shimmer and shine. Incorporating the trend forward marble with gold foil and crystals, mixed in with beautiful cool tones, was simply lovely.”
It was a tough decision to pick between two very different trends and David was impressed with what our finalists produced for the Eco trend too, commenting that “The Eco-Conscious Boards were a great use of architecture and natural elements. Utilizing the beauty of the natural surroundings, mixed in with fine details, was a nice way to complete the look.”
But there can only be one winner. David and his team send their big congratulations to Katarina!
