If you are new to online learning, or are considering starting an online course, we have some excellent tips for succesful online study on the Wedding Academy Live blog.
Today I want to give 3 more strategies to help you be a successful online learner, because when it comes to success as an online student, there really is no one size fits all. What you are aiming for, is a strategy that helps you take a disciplined approach to your study. If that doesn’t come naturally to you, our tips can help you get into a routine, so you can become a disciplined online student.
The Strategies
- Raise the stakes – this strategy goes along with making yourself accountable. But if just telling yourself that you need to apply yourself to your studies doesn’t work, raise the stakes by reminding yourself of what is at risk if you don’t complete the course. For you the stakes might be the financial investment you have made, the time you have already spent on it, or what you won’t be able to go on and achieve if you don’t finish.
- Find the right motivation – what is it that motivates you? Think back to past achievements. What was it that drove you to achieve your goal? Are you deadline-driven? Is it ticking off goals that motivates you? Whatever it is that encourages you when you feel challenged, apply it to your study.
- Be accountable to someone – study for someone who will be disappointed if you fall behind or quit. The someone may be someone who has something to gain if you succeed, or who has had to go without something because you used shared money to pay for the course. Or, it could just be all the ‘someones’ out there who haven’t had the opportunities you have. Be tough on yourself and bring ‘someone’ into the picture, whom you do not want to disappoint.
